Universal Design
The concept of Universal Design and Inclusive design proposes an ideal objective of design for all scenarios and the greatest cross section of society. An example of Universal design are the ramps at kerbs that replaced the gutter step, another is scissors handles that can be used left or right handed. While being an architectural objective, universal design is not the objective of the standards nor the building codes.
By chance the increased areas required for access have had a flow on effect to also improve work spaces, however, generally they do not satisfy the provisions of OH&S Acts.
